About PDFCocoon
Free PDF tools built on one simple promise: your files never leave your device.
Why we built PDFCocoon
Most online PDF tools ask you to upload your document to their servers. For a quick task like pulling two pages out of a report, that means a copy of your file, often a contract, a payslip or a medical letter, travels across the internet and sits on someone else’s computer. We didn’t think that trade-off was necessary.
Modern browsers are powerful enough to edit PDFs on their own. So we built a set of tools that do exactly that. Your file is opened, changed and saved on your own device, and nothing is sent anywhere.
Where the name comes from
A cocoon is where change happens safely, out of sight. Your PDF goes in, gets split, merged or converted, and comes back out transformed, without ever leaving your hands.
How it works
Every tool on PDFCocoon is written in JavaScript and runs inside your browser tab. We use well-known, open-source libraries to read and write PDF files, including pdf-lib and PDF.js by Mozilla. Our servers only deliver the web page itself. They never receive your documents.
You can check this yourself: open your browser’s developer tools, switch to the Network tab and use any tool. You’ll see that no request contains your file.
How we keep it free
PDFCocoon is free to use with no sign-up and no watermarks. We cover our costs with a small number of clearly labelled ads. Ads never have access to your files, because your files never leave your device.
Who runs it
PDFCocoon is run by Dulanka Katugampala, based in Sri Lanka. Questions, ideas or bug reports are always welcome. Get in touch.
